‘The Gamrie Goat’ is a natural goats-milk soap; skin cream and lotions handmade by me on our family croft on the beautiful Moray coast in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
The
goats: Goldie, Myrrh, Snowy, Sunny,
Foggy, Blizzard, Balmy, Gale, Frosty, Cirrus,
and Nimbus (Oh and their pal, Storm, -a
rejected lamb), sleep in our barn at night,
or when it’s raining, and graze on
our pastures when the sun shines.

The Gamrie Goats
I originally devised
the soap to use for myself. I have sensitive
skin and hadn’t used soap for years.
I found commercial soaps at best drying
on my skin and at worst making it red, itchy
and sore. Knowing that goat’s milk
has an age-old reputation of being good
for the skin I began experimenting until
I came up with this truly excellent skincare soap.
The idea of selling the soap really grew
out of a need to find some way to pay their
feed bills. I came up with my recipe after
many months of trial and error, and then
made sure that it complied with current
cosmetics regulations by having it independently
assessed by one of the biggest cosmetic
testing laboratories in the country (You
might be surprised how many small producers
don’t bother with that bit!)
Oh and when I say
“hand-made” I really mean just
that. Each morning and evening I milk the
goats the old fashioned way; by hand, sitting
on a stool in the doorway of the barn. I
then blend the milk with the best oils and
butters that I can find, including shea
butter, cocoa butter and olive oil; I do
not add scents or colours of any kind as
these can irritate the skin. I then mould
it, pack it, and either sell it myself from
a stall at the local Farmer’s Market,
or increasingly nowadays, ship it out to
shops and individual customers both locally
and around the world.
It’s
been really surprising how quickly this
whole thing has “taken off”;
already I have been featured several times
in
the press and the orders just keep pouring
in, so maybe it’s true what they say
happens if you “build a better mouse-trap”.
All I know is that people keep coming back
for more. Many people with sensitive skin
and other skin conditions have got in touch
with me to say that they find that they
can use this soap and find it mild and moisturizing.
(Of course everyone’s skin is different
so I can make no specific claims for it
– this is just what people report
back to me!)
I
also get asked a couple of questions quite
regularly and I answer these on the 'Help
and FAQs' page. Anyway, thank you for
reading my Home page. It is a
lovely soap for all skins, and if you
need any more convincing send me a stamped,
self-addressed envelope and I will send
you a small free sample to try for yourself.
I hope that you have found all the information
you require – if not, please contact
me - I’ll be pleased to hear from
you.
Thank you for your interest.
